Jaguar Drawings

XK120
I was commissioned last summer to do a series of drawings for a classic Jaguar showroom close to where I live. The company has quite a few E-Types and XK120s in their showroom, and also restore classic Jaguars. They wanted 4 drawings: one of 2 E-Types, one of 2 XK120s, one of a D-Type and XKSS, and one of a C-Type.

D-Type & XKSS
E-Type
These are by far the biggest drawings I have ever done.. they are more than 130cm across and around 85cm high. I drew them on card, which came as a 10m roll, using markers, pastels, gouache, pencils and fineliners.
The C-Type drawing did get finished, but I have not currently got a good quality photo.

Some Car Sketches

Bentley 4 1/2 Litre
I recently have been drawing some sketches of classic cars. All of these sketches are in graphite pencil on card. I wanted to achieve a slightly looser appearance than most of my other drawings. I wanted to do this to work on creating quicker, but effective drawings.

Suspension Drawings

Torsion Beam
For Uni recently we've had to do a project on engineering and car packaging. Part of this included drawing components such as suspension. These are a few of my suspension drawings. They are done with markers, fineliners and pencil.

BMW 2002 Turbo

My latest drawing is of a BMW 2002 Turbo. It is done in markers, pastels, pencils and gouache on A3 paper. I finished it today. I took photos, showing the progression as I was doing it so I will also upload them soon.

I find rendering white cars very difficult so I am happy with this attempt.

Range Rover Headlight

As part of my project at Uni, we were asked to draw components of cars from different angles.  I drew this Range Rover headlight and casing one afternoon in grey markers. It is interesting to see a car light which is not in the car.

Mercedes 190E

I was commissioned to do a drawing of a Mercedes 190E in white.  It is rare that I draw white cars but I was happy with the result and so was the customer. It was drawn using markers, pastels, pencils, gouache and fineliners. It is A3 size.

Buildings and Industry

This is some more of my work from college.  I became very interested in machinery, industry and industrial buildings and wanted to explore these themes in my work. Most of these images were sketchbook development using various media.

Shipwreck painting

Fineliner drawing of a brewery

Marker drawing of a brewery

Pencil drawing of a house porch

Acrylic painting of a building at night
I really like the way some buildings look at night, especially when there is strong lighting on the exterior. In this painting for example, I liked how the lights on the building defined its shape, creating the appearance that it is standing alone, and making it appear isolated.

Biro drawing of engine

Drawing of car parts

Pencil drawing of petrol pump

Pencil drawing of an engine

Car port made with coloured films

Silo made with coloured film and newspaper
I found some old coloured translucent films but I can't remember who they were made by. I also found some old letratone, and made these pictures.  I really like the block colours. Its a shame you can't buy the films anymore.

Mixed media petrol station

Acrylic painting of train station
My final piece was a local train station with a bridge, painted refering to photos taken in the snow at night last winter. I really liked the lighting on the bridge and the contrast of colours between the bridge and the building. This was one of the first paintings I did without using any black paint so I was happy with the result.

Some Drawings on Canson

Jaguar E-Type
As an automotive design student I have always been interested in cars, and I have been drawing cars for some time. This post is about some of the work I have done on coloured Canson using markers, pastels, gouache and coloured pencils.  I did the E-Type a couple of years ago and did the other ones here in 2011. A large amount of my recent work depicts cars as I sell drawings and take commissions through my website.

MGB GT V8

Ford Mustang

Jaguar XK120 FHC
The cars I draw are sometimes cars that people have commissioned drawings of, and sometimes cars drawn in my leisure. I used to draw many iconic cars as more people are familiar with certain models.

More drawings can be seen on my site
