Coffee Machine

I designed a coffee machine. It was just an idea, and I was more interested in the rendering than the actual feasibility of the design.

Range Rover Headlight

As part of my project at Uni, we were asked to draw components of cars from different angles.  I drew this Range Rover headlight and casing one afternoon in grey markers. It is interesting to see a car light which is not in the car.

Peterbilt Concept

This is a design for a Peterbilt truck I did at Uni in my first term. It was done with markers and gouache and is on A3 paper.

Poppy Painting

I just remembered about this painting of a poppy I did on somebody's wall. At just  over 6 feet, it is probably the biggest painting I have ever done. It was finished in October 2010. This is a bad quality photo and I will try and find a better one for the next couple of days.

Spark Plugs

Spark Plug
I created some spark plugs on Photoshop for a project to create some patterns etc. This is the result. The original spark plug is almost 6000 pixels wide so that it can be printed massive as a poster or picture for the wall. I like the minimal use of colour and the apparent simplicity the image has. There are no gradients, as I wanted a very graphical appearance. I found it difficult to represent the form of the spark plug using blocks of colour, but I am happy with the result.

Painting of Siam Square, Bangkok

A couple of days ago I finished my latest painting. It is a scene from Thailand, in Siam Square, Bangkok, during the rain. I didn't want to create a realistic painting; instead, I used lots of blurred lines and merging of colour, with black outlines over the top. Much of the paint has been applied at an angle, partly to be reminiscent of rain falling and partly so that the colours are not confined to their outlines. The painting is acrylic on hardboard and is about 94cm x 54cm.

Mercedes 190E

I was commissioned to do a drawing of a Mercedes 190E in white.  It is rare that I draw white cars but I was happy with the result and so was the customer. It was drawn using markers, pastels, pencils, gouache and fineliners. It is A3 size.

Triumph TR3A Rebuild Painting

I recently completed this painting of a Triumph TR3A which was being restored. The chassis is on the floor of a cramped garage with the body against a wall and the front end hanging from the inside of the garage door. I liked the artificial light and the shadows they cast and imagery of machinery. I wanted to exaggerate the straight, structured lines which have an industrial, man-made appearance, without it appearing as if everything had become outlined.

It was painted in goache on A3 card, 2011.

Buildings and Industry

This is some more of my work from college.  I became very interested in machinery, industry and industrial buildings and wanted to explore these themes in my work. Most of these images were sketchbook development using various media.

Shipwreck painting

Fineliner drawing of a brewery

Marker drawing of a brewery

Pencil drawing of a house porch

Acrylic painting of a building at night
I really like the way some buildings look at night, especially when there is strong lighting on the exterior. In this painting for example, I liked how the lights on the building defined its shape, creating the appearance that it is standing alone, and making it appear isolated.

Biro drawing of engine

Drawing of car parts

Pencil drawing of petrol pump

Pencil drawing of an engine

Car port made with coloured films

Silo made with coloured film and newspaper
I found some old coloured translucent films but I can't remember who they were made by. I also found some old letratone, and made these pictures.  I really like the block colours. Its a shame you can't buy the films anymore.

Mixed media petrol station

Acrylic painting of train station
My final piece was a local train station with a bridge, painted refering to photos taken in the snow at night last winter. I really liked the lighting on the bridge and the contrast of colours between the bridge and the building. This was one of the first paintings I did without using any black paint so I was happy with the result.

Some more old art - Portraits

I had a portrait project at college at the end of the first year and start of the second. These are a couple of the pages I did. Unfortunately lots of the drawings have become very smudged over the last year and are now just grey pages.
